We all experience moments where life needs a reset —a fresh start, a new beginning, whether it’s a new year, a new season, or a time of personal transformation.
The book of Isaiah reminds us that God is in the business of new beginnings. Isaiah 43:18,19 “ Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” This passage shows us three ways in which we can reset our lives through God’s redemptive work.
- Release The Past. “Forget the former things; don’t dwell on the past.” (vs.18) Reset requires us to release. You can not embrace the future while holding tightly to the past. God is not saying erase your memory, but stop being controlled or limited by it- whether it’s past failures, past pain, or past successes…Let it Go!
2. Recognize The New. “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” (vs.19a) Reset requires awareness. God is always working, but we do not always recognize it. See- implies we have to tune our spiritual vision to what God is doing, not just what we feel or fear. The New thing may not look like the old thing. It might be unfamiliar or uncomfortable, but it is God ordained.
3. Rely On His Direction. “I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Vs 19b) Reset requires Faith. God does not just promise something new. He makes a way where there seems to be no way. The wilderness represents chaos, uncertainty, and barrenness, but God turns the wasteland into watering places. A reset isn’t always instant. It’s often a journey through the wilderness. But God walks with you, provides for you, strengthens you, and leads you.
Closing Prayer: Lord, thank you that You are a God of new beginnings. Help us to release the past, recognize Your hand in the present, and trust You with our future. We reset our hearts today, and leads us into the new that You have prepared for us. In Jesus name, Amen!
